Men's Code Of Points - 8.4 Start value

  • With a hip angle of 125 to 130° coming off the springboard the gymnast makes an effort for a fast support phase by reaching for the center of the vaulting table.
  • During the support phase the arm-body angle should be at approximately 110-115°, with the angle of entry at around 35°. An immediate explosive opening of the arm-body angle with an overstretching of the body, supported by the heel drive, during preflight is necessary for proper technical execution of any vault in this group.
  • The push-off should begin shortly before reaching vertical. For men, the table offers a substantial advantage; a shoulder wide support position. The advantage of a wide support position is that the energy from the transition between preflight and support and support and postflight will go into the body, thereby reducing the stress on the shoulders.
