  All classes, except Class 7, must set the
parallel bars so that the rails are above their shoulder height (high enough for them to perform
a long hang swing without touching the floor).

USAG Compulsory Class VI - Parallel Bars

  Compulsory routines are broken up into parts. Parts may consist of a single or sequence of skills. Regardless of the amount of skills in the part each part is worth the same, 1.0 of the Base Score of the routine. If the part is missing or unrecognizable the gymnast receives a 1.0 deduction from his Base Score. If he completes more than 50% of the part he receives 0.5 a deduction from his Base Score.

1. From a stand or short run, long hang swing forward to 45° below horizontal (Make sure it's a tap swing, not glide swing)

2. Swing backward to upper arm support to 45° below horizontal

3. Swing forward to piked inverted (cast) position

Cast to swing backward and back uprise with feet at bar height
  • Bonus - instead of feet at bar height, Back uprise with feet above the bars and arms straight at completion (body must be in a straight line from shoulders to feet) +(0.2)

5. Swing forward (extended) with feet above the bars

6. Swing backward with body at horizontal
  • Bonus - instead of swinging to horizontal, swing to a momentary handstand (hold allowed) +(0.2)

7. Swing forward with hips above horizontal

8. Swing backward and hop to 45° above horizontal

9. Swing forward with hips above horizontal

10. Swing backward to 45° above horizontal

11. Swing forward to Stutz disnmount over either rail (The body should remain stretched during the turn, and be completed at horizontal)
